2 Jasper officers fired after videotaped incident

JASPER — Two Southeast Texas police officers have been fired after a videotaped incident in which a woman held for an unpaid traffic ticket had her face slammed on a jail counter.

The Jasper City Council on Monday dismissed Officers Ryan Cunningham and Ricky Grissom. Council members asked prosecutors to review the May 5 jailhouse video that also show an officer trying to drag Keyarika Diggles across a floor.

Both officers were put on paid administrative leave last month.

Diggles says she’s been anxious and scared since the incident that led to a resisting arrest charge. That count was dropped Monday. Details weren’t immediately available on the status of the traffic ticket.

Jasper Mayor Mike Lout says it was “sickening” to see the video.

Police say department procedures will be reviewed.
