The local office of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration will file charges in federal court, the sheriff’s office said.

The department said the two were stopped for a traffic violation at 3:36 p.m. while traveling east in a black SUV on I-10.

“During the stop, Joseph appeared overly nervous and both occupants’ stories were inconsistent, leading deputies to believe that contraband was being concealed inside the vehicle,” the statement read. “Deputies asked for consent to search the vehicle, which was denied by the driver.”

A Beaumont police K-9 officer searched the outside of the vehicle and was alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the vehicle. Deputies opened the vehicle and during their search located the cocaine in the glove box.
