PNG’s JOHNSON FINALIST FOR MR. TEXAS FOOTBALL

Port Neches-Groves quarterback Roschon Johnson has been named one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Texas Football High School Football Player of the Year Award, awarded by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.

Johnson completed his junior season Saturday in 5A Division II Region III defeat to College Station in Humble. He finished the season with unofficial totals of 2,913 yards and 34 touchdowns passing and 1,904 yards and 22 touchdowns rushing.

Other finalists include quarterbacks Qua Gray of Lubbock Coronado, Grant Gunnell of Houston St. Pius X, Brian Hamilton of Albany, Tanner Mordecai of Hewitt Midway, Jackson Sampson of New Diana, Spencer Sanders of Denton Ryan and Julon Williams of Converse Judson, and running backs Daimarqua Foster of Wichita Falls Hirschi and Keaontay Ingram of Carthage.

The winner will be announced prior to the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at NRG Stadium.
