Police Association holding no-confidence vote against chief

According to the Port Arthur Police Association’s Facebook page, the organization is holding a vote of no confidence against police Chief Patrick Melvin.

The vote started Friday and it will conclude Nov. 6 at 8 a.m.

After the vote is held, the association will release a statement regarding the results of the vote.

Any member of the Port Arthur Police Association may vote.

Melvin was installed by the city council as police chief in September 2016. During his tenure, the department has gone through several shakeups with longtime, senior officers being demoted, fired or retiring early.
