It’s been a traumatic week for Port Arthur and an interesting past couple of days as the city recovers from Hurricane Harvey.

· Port Arthur Police and Fire Departments continue to provide continuous citywide coverage.

· As businesses begin to reopen make sure you look for an orange tag. It means the health department has inspected the restaurant, and they’re cleared to operate.

· Tetanus shots available for citizens starting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the city health department at 449 Austin Ave.

· You may need a tetanus shot if you were exposed to flood water and/or have not had a tetanus shot within the last 10 years. First responders are still responding to calls for service, but the calls have reduced dramatically.

· Shelter at Max Bowl is now empty and evacuees have been moved via air to Dallas. There are 200 at Carl Parker Center and 600 at TJ. Air lifts to Dallas shelters/medical facilities continuously underway.

· Be cautious when entering your home, and watch for snakes, insects and other animals that may have been driven to higher ground by flood water.

· Don’t walk in flooded areas or standing water if you can help it. Remember that wet tree limbs can conduct electricity.

· Stay away from downed power lines and areas of debris. Energized power lines may not be visible among the rubble. Report downed lines immediately to Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749), and call your local police station or fire department. If a power line falls on your vehicle while driving, continue to drive away from the line.

· When disposing of your construction debris please don’t place it in the ditch. Set it in a dry area near the street. The city is working on initiating a contract for garbage/trash/debris and will get it picked up as soon as we can.

· If your organization is distributing items in Port Arthur please message us so we can get your location and information out to our citizens.
