Tropical Storm Harvey overnight dumped as much as 15 inches of rain across an already soaked Port Arthur.

Residents reported most roadways in an around Port Arthur are flooded, including Interstate 10 and U.S. 90, with no access to Houston.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said early Wednesday rescuers are working hard to reach residents trapped in flooded areas.

Dozens of residents turned to social media pleading for help. Authorities said they are unable to adequately monitor all social media outlets and instead urge those who need assistance are urged to call their local emergency management offices, Jefferson County Emergency Management Office at 409-835-8757, Port Arthur 409-983-8622, Port Neches 409-719-4258, Beaumont 409-880-3838, Nederland 409-723-1531 and Groves 409-962-4460. For emergencies, call 911.

The Carl Parker Center at Lamar State College in Port Arthur is open as a shelter.

Residents whose houses are flooded, but still have electricity are urged to turn it off to avoid electrocution.
