Raul “Roy” Cantu

Raul “Roy” Cantu, 89, of Nederland passed away with his daughter’s by his side on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Gardens of Beaumont.

He was born on February 16, 1928 to his parents as the youngest of seven, Victoria Gutierrez Cantu and Juan Cantu, Sr. in Orange, Texas. Roy has been a lifelong resident of the area and has lived in Nederland since 1978. He proudly served in the U. S. Army during World War 11 and continued his service with the National Guard of Texas until his discharge in 1960. Roy retired from Gulf Oil as a storehouseman after 35 years. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his six siblings, Juan Cantu, Jr., Amalia Villegas, Abelardo Cantu, Eloy Cantu, Hector Cantu and Eva Arenas, his loving wife, Gloria R. Cantu.

He is survived by his two daughters, Adela Martinez and husband, Juan of Beaumont, Gloria Zumo and husband, Allan of Nederland, four grandchildren, B. J. Martinez and wife, Terri of Beaumont, Vanessa Melancon and husband, Derek of Beaumont, Bryan Zumo and wife, Jess of Port Neches, Nick Zumo and wife, Kristen of Nederland along with 9 Great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland. Rev. John Hughes will serve as celebrant. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompso
