Port Neches drowning victim identified

PORT NECHES — Authorities have identified a Port Neches man who died from accidental drowning as David Keith.

Keith, 69, was found dead in his pool by his wife about 7:15 a.m. Friday in the 700 block of Riley Street, Justice of the Peace, Pct. 7 Brad Burnett said.

“I knew him. He was a really good man,” Burnett said, adding that he officiated at the deceased’s wedding five years ago.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate accidental drowning and toxicology results are pending.

Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine said the man had been out on his patio with his wife and she had went in to bed around 10 p.m. The victim had had sleeping problems and it was not uncommon for him to stay awake after his wife went to bed, he said.
