Contract worker killed at ExxonMobil

BEAUMONT — A contract worker at ExxonMobil in downtown Beaumont was killed in an industrial accident early Wednesday morning.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office got the call around 1 a.m. Wednesday, May 11 in which a contract worker with AltairStrictland was working on a heat exchanger on an elevated platform when a pipe fell onto him, Deputy Marcus McLellan said.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

ExxonMobil released a statement about the death.

“We regret that a contractor was fatally injured in an incident at a unit under maintenance at the Beaumont refinery. We have notified the appropriate authorities and are working to investigate the cause of the incident. We are greatly saddened by this and express our deepest sympathy to his family and his co-workers,” Todd Spitler, media advisor for public and government affairs, said in the statement.
