PORTER — On to the next round.

Port Neches-Groves organized a second straight rout of New Caney Porter on Saturday to win the 5A Region III bi-district best-of-three baseball series. The Indians scored all of their runs in the first four innings and Ryan Leckich held the Spartans to two hits in a five-inning, 10-0 win.

The Indians (21-6) will take on Santa Fe in the area round, with dates and location to be announced.

The way the Indians scored was simple, from a numerical standpoint: Four runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. They provided more than enough run support for Leckich, who struck out 10.

PN-G, for its part, hammered out 10 hits. Austin Bost drove in three runs and was 2 for 3, as was Carter Henry. Logan LeJeune batted 2 for 2 as well.

Five Indians — Nathan Vidrine, Chase Warren, Leckich, Henry and Bost — each doubled.

Porter starter Cole Godkin allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits in 1 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. Adrian Rodriguez gave up three earned runs on four hits in the next 2 1/3, while Patrick Hine walked a batter and struck out three in the fifth.
