A Nederland man was found guilty by a jury on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child and sentenced to 37 years in prison on Wednesday.

Matthew Favorite, 28, was convicted of the charge and under law there is no parole. The charge carries a sentence of 25 years to life in the penitentiary. The jury deliberated less than an hour on Tuesday before finding Favorite guilty, according to a press release from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office.

The sexual abuse reportedly began in September 2014 and continued until November of that same year. The victim was nine years old at the time she made an outcry of the abuse. The victim was interviewed by the Garth House and the investigation was refereed to the Nederland Police Department. Det. Matt Turner investigated the case and Assistant District Attorney Mike Laird prosecuted the case.
