BEAUMONT — Two Beaumont men were indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on Wednesday in the capital murder of a Beaumont store clerk.
Chandler Kyle Ventress, 19, and John David Sean Johnson, also 19, were charged in the April 29 shooting death of Beaumont store clerk Mettha Kuruppa.
Bond was set at $2 million for each man.
According to police, two men armed with guns entered Pick N Stop, 870 S. Major Drive, and attempted to rob the store. The clerk resisted and retrieved a bb gun and pointed it at the robbers. One of the robbers then fired a shot that stuck the clerk. The two robbers then fled on foot heading west on Landis.
An indictment is not a final conviction of guilt, it is only a ruling by the grand jury  that allows the district attorney’s office to proceed with a criminal case.
