Port Arthur Fire fighters spent about three hours working on a house fire at 1247 Fifth St.

PAFD received the call of the fire at 10:27 p.m. Monday and upon arrival found the vacant home to be fully engulfed, PAFD Battalion Chief Gary Sewell said. The department responded with three pumper trucks, one ladder truck and the chief’s car.

The two story structure, which had been condemned by the city and was without utilities, was totally destroyed by the fire.

A transient was in the home at the time of the fire but escaped uninjured.

Sewell said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
